The beauty of concrete is that it can take any form. Here is a corner detail.
Concrete columns at the fireplace also act as structural plinths for the shear wall above, anchoring the house both symbolically and literally. This dual function was a feature of the design that really appealed to me: The marriage of form/function, symbolism/structure.
